Confidential Computing Basics
What Is the Importance of Trusted Execution Environments (TEEs) in Confidential Computing?
TEEs are central to the concept of confidential computing. They create secure areas in the processor to protect data and code in use. Enclaves, a type of TEE, offer process-level isolation, ensuring that sensitive data is processed in a secure environment, invisible even to the operating system or hypervisor. TEEs provide a hardware root of trust, crucial for maintaining data confidentiality during processing, and support remote attestation, allowing external verification of the integrity and security of the environment where data is processed.
